. . . as Munich Aims at Mug Thieves
From Reuters
MUNICH, West Germany — The organizers of Munich’s Oktoberfest beer festival will crack down on souvenir hunters after losing 250,000 traditional one-liter beer mugs to pilferers last year.
“We no longer view this as a mere peccadillo,” said Munich Tourist Office Director Gabriele Weishaeupl, who added that this year every theft will be reported to the police.
Losses of mugs to tourist souvenir collectors last year cost the festival about $400,000.
