Italy to Help Build Nicaragua Power Plant
United Press International
ROME — The Italian government will help finance construction of a geothermal power station in Nicaragua to harness heat from the Earth’s crust for electricity. Foreign Ministry counselor Marco Rocca said Italy will contribute $25 million to co-finance the project on the slopes of the Momotombo Volcano.
The Canadian government will make a similar contribution. The geothermal power station, and another already on the side of the volcano, will provide 40% of Nicaragua’s electricity.
