Gary Dotson, whose prison sentence for rape was commuted in 1985 after his accuser, Cathleen Crowell Webb, recanted her testimony, was arrested in Chicago on charges of beating his wife, police said. Camille Dotson, who did not require hospitalization, flagged down a police car and told officers that she had been beaten during an argument, Police Lt. Fred Friedlieb said. She also said that Dotson, 30, had taken the couple’s 6-month-old daughter from their house. He had been drinking but did not appear to be intoxicated when he was arrested, police said. Dotson, who was charged with simple battery, a misdemeanor, had served six years of a 25- to 50-year prison term in the 1977 rape case.
