The World : Zaire Ousts 3 Soviet Envoys
Three Soviet diplomats have been charged with spying and ordered to leave Zaire, officials said in Kinshasa, Zaire’s capital. The three diplomats were not identified, but one was reportedly among 47 Soviet diplomats who were expelled from France in 1983 for industrial espionage. Intelligence agents in Kinshasa said the three Soviet diplomats had gathered information on Zaire’s army and trade unions. Relations between Zaire and the Soviet Union had been improving since 1986, with increased economic and commercial exchanges.
