Tornado in China Kills 16; 442 Hurt

TOKYO — A tornado swept through three counties in northeastern China, killing 16 people, seriously injuring 442 and leaving 13 others missing, the official New China News Agency reported Saturday.
The report, monitored in Tokyo, quoted local authorities as saying the tornado, accompanied by heavy rain, struck 14 towns in Hailun, Baiquan and Nehe counties in Heilongjiang province Friday afternoon. About 1,800 houses were destroyed in the storms, it said.
