Striking machinists at the Convair division of General Dynamics issued a call for a Monday morning rally outside the parking lot of the plant in Kearny Mesa as the strike enters its third week.
“Purpose of the rally is to demonstrate to General Dynamics that they haven’t, and won’t, break the members’ determination to win a fair and equitable contract,” Tom Roberts, a spokesman for the International Assn. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, said Saturday.
The rally is scheduled from 6 to 8 a.m. Union officials said they will respect court orders by gathering along Kearny Villa Road rather than at the actual gates into the plant.
Paul Pechter, a member of the strike committee, estimated that less than 10% of the striking workers have crossed the picket lines and have returned to work.
When the strike was called two weeks ago, 3,600 union members in San Diego walked off their jobs.
