MADONNA HEAT

I was dismayed by the rancor expressed by some readers toward Robert Hilburn’s review of Madonna (Saturday Letters, July 4).
I was also puzzled by the comparison a reader made between Madonna and Janis Joplin, two artists creating in completely different genres of music. Joplin is inclined toward the blues end of the musical spectrum, while Madonna’s forte is upbeat dance and party music. Why not compare Michael Jackson to Elvis Presley?
Having seen Madonna’s “Who’s That Girl?” concert, I would have to disagree with Hilburn on one point, though. He says, “It’s true: Madonna is really good”; this is an understatement. She is ineffable--I mean, this girl is hot!
Fortunately, Hilburn won’t be the only person who’s “libido is leading him astray,” as one reader indicated. The psycho cathartic effect of Madonna’s music will be keeping my libidinal energy fully charged--well into the 21st Century.
