UCI’s Buffy Rabbitt Fails to Qualify for the Final of National 1,500 Meters

Buffy Rabbitt of UC Irvine placed ninth in the first heat of the women’s 1,500 meters Thursday and failed to qualify for Saturday’s final in the USA/Mobil national track and field meet at San Jose.

Rabbitt, a sophomore, finished in 4 minutes 20.52 seconds, the 15th fastest time of the day. Only the top four in the two heats and the next four fastest times advance to the final.

Alisa Harvey of Knoxville, Tenn., won the first heat in 4:15.69, and Diane Richburg of Troy, N.Y., won the second heat with the fastest time of the day, 4:13.10.
