Kenny G. is a sax player whose part-instrumental album, “Duotones,” (No. 16) is racing up the Billboard magazine pop chart. It may be the surprise hit of the year. His popular single, “Songbird” (No. 17), is boosting the LP’s sales. New traditionalist singer Randy Travis, one of country music’s new stars, is finally making it big on the pop market. His new album, “Always & Forever,” shot up to No. 39 in just three weeks. Smokey Robinson’s album, “One Heartbeat,” (No. 30)--his biggest hit in years--looks as if it will at least make the Top 20. His single, “Just to See Her,” (No. 13) is a shoo-in for the Top 10. “Spanish Fly,” the red-hot album by Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, is up to No. 12. U2’s album, “The Joshua Tree,” now at the double-platinum stage (two million sold), is No. 1 for the eighth week. Whitney Houston’s single, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” (No. 10) should be No. 1 in two or three weeks. The current No. 1 single is another dance tune: Kim Wilde’s cover version of Holland-Dozier-Holland’s “You Keep Me Hangin’ On,” which was also a No. 1 hit for the Supremes in 1966.
