Mary Decker Slaney said that her much delayed 1987 track debut should occur June 6 when she hopes to run a mile at the Prefontaine Classic in her hometown, Eugene, Ore.
Slaney’s attempt to run her first real outdoor track race since 1985 has been delayed three times this spring. She has been bothered by an Achilles tendon injury.
“The tendon is feeling good now,” said Slaney, who canceled her 800-meter entry for Saturday’s Bruce Jenner invitational meet at San Jose. “It’s not 100% but that’s why we had to take this week and get it where I can gradually do more.”
