Ex-Duck Flax Throws Hammer 250 Feet
CORVALLIS, Ore. — Ken Flax, former University of Oregon star, threw the hammer 250 feet Thursday night to highlight the competition at the Oregon State University Twilight track and field meet.
Flax, a former NCAA champion now competing for the New York Athletic Club, defeated runner-up Lance Deal by 12 feet.
Another former collegiate champion, Farley Gerber, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8:41.54.
Jill Smith of the University of Oregon qualified for the NCAA championships by winning the women’s javelin with a personal best 172-10.
Former Oregon State standout Mark Fricker won the 1,500 meters in 3:46.29.
Craig Christenson, competing for the New York Athletic Club, captured the javelin competition with a throw of 247-9.
