Israel’s attorney general ordered a police investigation of the Shin Bet security agency’s extraction of a false confession from a spy suspect and fabrication of evidence, Israel radio said. Atty. Gen. Joseph Harish will turn over to police officials today documents on the Shin Bet interrogation of Israeli army Lt. Izat Nafsu, the radio said. The Israeli Supreme Court on Sunday overturned Nafsu’s conviction, ruling that Shin Bet interrogators had forced a false confession. A Police Ministry official said the investigation will be headed by “senior officers who can guarantee a serious and secret job.”
