The Nation : Missouri Fugitive Caught
A tip from a waitress about a man with a scraggly beard who turned his back to other customers helped authorities capture a fugitive who had eluded a three-week Missouri dragnet in April. Officers said John David Brown, 32, was arrested in Ada, Okla., and was transported to Oklahoma City where a U.S. magistrate appointed a public defender for him. Brown faces several charges in Missouri, including first-degree assault. He is wanted for questioning in the killing of a church volunteer and faces a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Brown escaped from a Fordland, Mo., prison in 1984.
