World chess champion Gary Kasparov and former champion Anatoly Karpov will meet for the world title in Seville, Spain, on Oct. 12, the World Chess Federation announced in Lucerne, Switzerland. Kasparov won the world title from Karpov last year. Federation President Florencio Campomanes told reporters that Seville won the right to stage the championship over bids from Madrid, Seattle, the United Arab Emirates and Sochi, Soviet Union. The total prize money approved for the championship stands at more than $1.9 million.
