Neil Kinnock, leader of Britain’s Labor Party, suggested that the ruling Conservatives had sought help from President Reagan in the British election campaign, but Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher denied it. Reagan said Wednesday that Labor’s pledge to scrap Britain’s nuclear weapons and reject U.S. cruise missiles was a “grievous error.” Kinnock suggested that the Conservatives had Reagan express his support for Thatcher “because they are pressured by our advance” in the polls. Thatcher, whose party still holds a lead of 8 to 12 percentage points in opinion polls, dismissed the idea. Britons will vote June 11.
