An attempted securities robbery was foiled in N.Y.
The FBI and New York police caught the men, including an armored car guard, as they allegedly attempted to rob a Wall Street-area shipment of at least $1 billion in securities, officials said. Two waiting truckloads of police and FBI agents pounced on a pair of ski-masked gunmen as they approached a Loomis Armored truck outside the office of the Depository Trust Co. at about 6:30 a.m. A guard on the armored car also was arrested as a co-conspirator, said Thomas Sheer, head of the FBI’s New York office. The Joint Bank Robbery Task Force was tipped to the pending robbery attempt by a confidential informant, Sheer said.
