Robber on Bike Pedals Away From 3rd Bank in 2 Weeks
A bank robber who makes his getaway on a bicycle struck for a third time in two weeks Tuesday, taking an undisclosed amount of cash in Valencia, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The robber entered the First Nationwide Bank on Lyons Avenue on Tuesday, wearing a sweat suit and carrying a blue backpack and a handgun, Deputy D. Schrick said. He handed a note to a teller, who handed him the money, the deputy said.
The robber then took off on a 10-speed bicycle, which was found a half block from the bank, Schrick said.
“He has obviously got a car stashed someplace,” Sgt. Don Erickson said. Investigators believe that the same man, using the same method, robbed a savings and loan in Palmdale on May 13 and a bank in Lancaster on May 19, Erickson said.
Authorities believe that the robber, a very thin man in his middle 20s to early 30s, may wear a black, curly wig, the sheriff’s spokesman said.
