U.S. Radar Laden Weapons

Amlie draws the conclusion that in the event of hostilities, virtually all of our tactical air support and any ship-operating radar would “become early casualties.” According to Amlie, radars are excellent targets for anti-radiation missiles (ARMS) to pick up radar signals and track them to the source--in much the same way that heat-seeking missiles go to the heart of the flame.

Whether he is technically correct or not is a question for experts. But Amlie’s article does illustrate one point: War doesn’t really work any more and, anyone who seeks national security based on a technological fix is fooling himself.

There has never been a perfect offensive system or a perfect defensive system, and there never will be. Real security in this high-tech Nuclear Age can only come about by building better relationships between the nations and the peoples of the world.

As a species, we should be pouring all of our creative efforts, energies and resources into that effort, and not into building more sophisticated weaponry, which, like the old-fashioned boomerang, is likely to come back and hit us in the head.
