The Lynwood City Council has approved a $150,000 citywide graffiti eradication project scheduled to start in July.

“This is an aggressive program where daily checks for graffiti will be made throughout the city,” Councilwoman Evelyn Wells said.

Funding is from from the federal Community Development Block Grant program. The city Department of Parks and Recreation will administer the project, whose work will be done by four part-time employees working five days a week.

Harold Matoon, director of parks and recreation, said the city will use some of the money to buy supplies and equipment, including two pickup trucks, water blasters, paint and rollers.

Graffiti will be removed from public property as well as private property at the request of the owners, Matoon said.
