A couple of long-time TV favorites--J. R. Ewing and the bionic man and woman--made strong showings in the weekly ratings released Tuesday by the A. C. Nielsen Co.

The season finale of “Dallas,” with Ewing Oil seemingly in ruin, and “The Return of the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman,” a new movie picking up on the lives of the bionic wonders, were ranked third and fourth, respectively, just behind the top two programs, “Family Ties” and “The Cosby Show.” Rounding out the top 10 were “Murder She Wrote,” “Cheers,” “Growing Pains,” “Moonlighting,” “60 Minutes” and “Knots Landing.” Part one of “Roses Are for the Rich,” which aired opposite the bionic movie Sunday night, came in 12th. In the weekly averages, it was NBC (14.6) a whisker ahead of CBS (14.3), both with 25% audience shares. ABC had a 10.6 rating and 18% audience share.

In the important May sweeps ratings, NBC (14.9) and CBS (14.1) again were neck ‘n’ neck, with ABC (10.9) trailing. The complete Nielsen list appears on Page 11.
