Girl Leaps 10 Floors to Avoid Spanking, Lives

CHICAGO — A 12-year-old girl who leaped from the 10th floor of a public housing apartment building to avoid being spanked by her mother escaped serious injury when she landed on rain-softened grass, authorities said Monday.
Alexis Alexander was listed in fair condition at Michael Reese Hospital and doctors were examining her for internal injuries, a hospital spokeswoman said.
