Leaders of striking policemen in Lima, Peru, and government officials said an agreement has been signed ending an illegal two-day walkout for higher wages. But about 100 discontented officers, disavowing the accord, commandeered six buses at gunpoint and briefly clashed with supporters of President Alan Garcia’s ruling party at a rally at the presidential palace, witnesses said. Rebel police in one of the hijacked buses also fired at the headquarters of Garcia’s American Popular Revolutionary Alliance, two blocks from a seized precinct serving as a base for the strikers, an independent radio station reported.
