Daly to Coach at West Hills High
Brian Daly, who turned the San Dieguito program around in one year, announced Wednesday that he is resigning his position to take a similar job at West Hills High School in Santee, which will open in the fall.
“I think it’s a really exciting opportunity,” said Daly, The Times’ Coach of the Year in boys’ basketball. “I’ve been looking into the Grossmont District for a while. I think it’s the best educational district in San Diego County.”
Daly, a social studies teacher, coached San Dieguito (9-3, 16-10) to a second place tie in the Palomar League last season in his only season there. The year before, San Dieguito didn’t win a game in league play.
Daly said West Hills’ Principal Bob Guess and assistant principal Dave Hunter had a strong influence on his decision.
“I was very impressed with them,” Daly said. “They have a strong commitment to excellence in academics as well as athletics.”
West Hills will have only freshmen the first year and add a class each year following.
