Crawford Rallies to Beat Christian, 8-7
SAN DIEGO — Christian High School pulled off another seventh-inning rally Saturday, but Crawford High did it one better, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh for an 8-7 City Central League victory at Crawford.
Christian--which on Thursday scored six runs after two were out in the bottom of the seventh to beat Lincoln, 9-8--trailed Crawford, 6-2, after six Saturday.
The Patriots (6-3, 12-6) rallied five runs to take a 7-6 lead. Chris Waymire’s two-run double capped the comeback.
In the bottom of the seventh, however, Crawford (3-4-2, 5-14-3) came back. Doonie Ward singled and stole second, and Manny Galliano’s single scored Ward. After another single and two fly outs, A.J. Leighton singled on a 3-2 pitch to drive home Galliano and give Crawford the victory. Doug Withers (1-2) picked up the win in relief.
Christian fell a half-game behind idle San Diego (6-2-1 in league) in the league race with six games remaining.
