A California investment group will start construction May 15 on an $18-million hotel at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah. The first guests will be greeted during the Christmas holidays this year, according to plans.

Rob Morris, development and design consultant for the project, said the 192-room lodge will be located at the base of Bald Eagle Mountain on a ski run and adjacent to the Snow Park Day Lodge.

Negotiations are under way with James Nassikas, president and general manager of San Francisco’s Stanford Court Hotel, to provide the management team for the new hotel. Nassikas is also president and general manager of the Deer Valley Resort.

Architect Ted Warr, affiliated with J. J. Johnson & Associates, will design the hotel and his firm will do the engineering. Morris, principal of the Robert Morris & Associates real estate firm, developed the Alpha Beta Holiday Village Shopping Mall and the Yarrow Hotel (formerly the Holiday Inn) in Park City, and the Stein Eriksen Lodge in Deer Valley.

The new Deer Valley hotel will eventually include a health club, swimming pool, restaurant, lounge, ski boutique and a 350-seat convention center.
