Ambassador Hotel to Close Guest Rooms
The Ambassador Hotel, a favorite oasis for the rich and famous in bygone days, will be closing most of its guest rooms later this month.
The closing is designed to save money until the fate of the well-known Los Angeles hotel is determined, spokeswoman Margaret Burk said. The 66-year-old hotel has been up for sale for about a year.
“They are holding up on doing a lot of renovating until they determine what they should do,” Burk said.
All the guest rooms in the hotel, located at 3400 Wilshire Blvd., will be closed on May 14, but the guest bungalows and the banquet rooms will remain open. The hotel will continue to host proms, weddings, parties and other functions.
Burk said the hotel owners have received several offers for the hotel but all have been rejected. The owners of the hotel, which occupies one of the last open spaces left in Los Angeles, have not promised that the structure will be spared the wrecking ball.
The hotel is owned by the family of the late J. Myer Schine, who built a hotel and theater empire.
