San Diego College Baseball : Titans Like Aztec Scoreboard, 10-1
SAN DIEGO — Cal State Fullerton baseball Coach Augie Garrido took one look at San Diego State’s new $100,000 scoreboard and said he liked what he saw. The board, used for the first time Tuesday, read: Cal State Fullerton 10, San Diego State 1.
“I definitely like the board,” Garrido said with a smile. “It’s absolutely beautiful, in fact.”
The board, which stands 31 feet tall in center field and features 62,108-watt computer graphics, was put into use early by Fullerton Tuesday. The Titans (13-9) scored three runs in the first inning and four in the second en route to the easy victory.
In the first two innings, the Titans had six hits, stole four bases, had two hit batters and drew three walks.
“We don’t have a lot of power so we need to execute,” Garrido said. “We executed well in the first two innings.”
The Aztecs (10-9) also have little power, so the seven-run deficit pretty much put the game away. Bob Parry did have four hits and an RBI for SDSU.
Fullerton starter and winner Mark Beck (3-2) went all the way, allowing seven hits. Steve Mills (0-1) lasted only one inning and was the loser.
