I. Magnin named a new chief executive.

Barbara Bass, executive vice president and general merchandise manager of Federated Department Stores’ Bloomingdale’s unit in New York, has been named chairman and chief executive of I. Magnin, the company’s San Francisco-based specialty apparel unit. Bass, 36, will assume the post at the 26-store chain on March 1. She replaces Steven M. Somers, who resigned last month to become president of a fledgling company called Initials Plus.
