Yorba Linda : Man Dies in Freeway Crash; Woman Arrested
A Riverside man was killed Tuesday night when his car, heading into Orange County on the Riverside Freeway, was struck from behind by a car driven by a woman suspected of drunk driving, authorities said Wednesday.
California Highway Patrol investigators identified the victim as Lindberg B. Dickson, 58.
CHP investigators said Dickson’s car was westbound at 55 m.p.h. in the lane beside the high-speed lane shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, when a car driven by Doris L. Gibson, 27, of Ontario, approached in the high-speed lane at 85 to 90 m.p.h. Gibson’s car then swerved and struck Dickson’s slower-moving car from behind.
The impact sent the slower car out of control off the freeway, where it rolled and threw Dickson out of the car.
He was rushed to Western Medical Center’s trauma center in Santa Ana, where he died 1 1/2 hours later.
Gibson was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and felony vehicular manslaughter, CHP officers said.
