The World : MIGs Bomb Afghan City
Several dozen people were killed and injured when Soviet-built planes bombed Kandahar in southern Afghanistan, Afghan exiles said in neighboring Pakistan. They said that local authorities called the bombing last week a mistake, and it is not clear whether the MIG planes were piloted by Afghans or Soviets. The exiles said the planes dropped four to six bombs on western Kandahar. Afghan guerrillas have reported fighting in the region and say they move freely at night in much of Kandahar, about 300 miles southwest of Kabul.
