IBM will shift more employees into field marketing.
International Business Machines Corp. said it will free 2,000 people for direct sales and support by having the headquarters staff of its information systems group consolidate some work now done by headquarters staffs of the group and its two direct sales divisions. Some of the headquarters staff at the two divisions will be redeployed, IBM said. The move is expected to increase IBM’s field marketing force in the United States to 28,000 from 23,000 by the end of 1987. The consolidation of headquarters staffs will be completed in November, an IBM spokesman said.
