An army of about 18,000 firefighters made more advances against forest and range fires that have burned 691,912 acres since Aug. 1 in the Northwest, and plans were being made to reseed charred land. Despite continued hot, dry weather, 120 of 154 fires started Sunday, mostly by lightning, in Western states had been contained, officials said. Firefighters in hard-hit northeastern Oregon reported 60% containment of a series of forest and brush fires and rehabilitation teams there were working to map out reseeding efforts, authorities said.
