100 Hindu Militants Arrested in Punjab; Police Fear Violence
From Reuters
NEW DELHI — Police in Punjab arrested more than 100 Hindu militants Sunday in an attempt to avert violence during a Hindu protest strike in the state.
The Press Trust of India news service said leaders and activists of the hard-line Hindu Shiv Sena (Army of the God Shiva) were seized in pre-dawn raids.
Shiv Sena rejected pleas by politicians last week to cancel a strike scheduled for today to protest the killings of Hindus by extremists campaigning for an independent Sikh nation.
