Outage Hits Van Nuys Offices, Factories
An equipment failure knocked out power to 38 large Van Nuys buildings and factories Tuesday morning, trapping at least 40 people in elevators for 38 minutes.
No injuries were reported, fire and police officials said.
The outage, which began at 9:42 a.m., was caused by the failure of equipment at Haskell Avenue and Sherman Way. Power was restored at 10:20 a.m., a spokeswoman for the Department of Water and Power said.
The equipment serves only high-voltage industrial customers, including the Van Nuys police station, government offices, the Valley Federal Savings building and the Anheuser-Busch Inc. brewery, the spokeswoman said.
