ORANGE COUNTY PREP BASKETBALL : South Coast League : Mission Viejo Takes Over Sole Possession of Second
Todd Matthews scored 21 points and Tim Knowles added 20 Wednesday night as Mission Viejo High School beat El Toro, 71-66, to take over sole possession of second place in the South Coast League.
The Diablos improved their record to 4-1 in league play and 14-5 overall. They are 1 1/2 games behind Capistrano Valley.
El Toro fell into third place at 3-2 and 9-8. The Chargers were led by sophomore guard Bret Johnson, who had 24 points. Jeff Stone added 18 points and 6 assists.
