NHL Roundup : Nordiques Break a Tie, Gain Tie
Brent Ashton scored at 2:59 of overtime Monday night at Quebec as the Nordiques beat Montreal, 3-2, and moved into a tie with the Canadiens for first place in the Adams Division.
Stephane Richer of Montreal had tied the game at 2-2 at 6:10 of the third period with a power-play goal. Guy Carbonneau scored the other Canadien goal, in the second period.
Jean-Francois Savue scored twice for Quebec, each time with Montreal’s Mario Tremblay in the penalty box.
Hartford 5, New York Rangers 0--Doug Jarvis had a goal and two assists at New York and Steve Weeks recorded his first shutout of the season for the Whalers, who ended the Rangers’ five-game unbeaten streak.
Jarvis, playing in his 846th straight game, assisted on Paul MacDermid’s goal and on one by Ray Ferraro.
