Five Indian scientists reported that an explosion apparently occurred in the front cargo hold of an Air-India jumbo jet, causing it to crash off Ireland last June, killing all 329 people aboard, according to the Press Trust of India. “The holes and other features observed in different parts of the wreckage showed that they must have been due to shock waves and penetration of high-velocity fragments following the explosion,” said the scientists, who examined the Boeing 747 wreckage. Investigators have theorized that Sikh extremists fighting for an independent Punjab planted a bomb on the plane.
