The Region : Church Leader Eulogized by Successor
Herbert W. Armstrong, the Apostle and Pastor General of the Pasadena-based Worldwide Church of God, was eulogized by his successor as irreplaceable. “There is no man who can fill his shoes, but Father we aim to follow in his footsteps,” Joseph K. Tkach told 4,500 mourners, including Armstrong’s son Garner Ted Armstrong, at Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena. Armstrong, 93, died Thursday. The younger Armstrong, former church executive and television spokesman who had not spoken to his father for nearly eight years, sat in the front row of mourners, wiping away tears throughout the 30-minute service. An anguished Armstrong said Friday he regretted not seeing his father before he died, saying reconciliation was “now forever too late.”
