Girls’ Roundup : Koury Leads Savanna, 50-30
Najla Koury scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Savanna High School girls’ basketball team to a 50-30 nonleague victory over Sunny Hills Friday night in the Rebels’ gym.
Koury scored 14 of her points in the second quarter as Savanna (7-7) outscored the Lancers, 20-8, to take a 29-12 halftime lead. The Rebels shot 50% (13 of 26) from the field in the first half.
Savanna’s Venetta Dorlis added 10 points and 8 assists, and teammate Tammy Burns scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Dede Shephard led the Rebels with 11 rebounds.
Norma Bates led the Lancers with 11 points.
In other nonleague action:
La Mirada 56, Valencia 50--Bonnie Knox and Trisha Gibson each scored 20 points to lead the Matadores in a victory over the Tigers at Valencia. Steffi Strauss led the Tigers (8-3) with 14 points, Kimari Kubota added 12 points and Jenny Wilson had 10.
