Azusa Beats Cal Lutheran Women, 68-65
Azusa Pacific’s Denise Duncan scored 23 points to lead the Lady Cougars to a 68-65 victory over Cal Lutheran in an NAIA District 3 game Friday night at Cal Lutheran.
Cal Lutheran (8-6 overall and 1-3 in league) led by a point with 45 seconds remaining, but the Regals’ Gloria Phillipps missed the front end of a one-and-one free-throw opportunity and Azusa Pacific scored the next four points to steal the victory.
Phillipps, a 5-10 junior, led Cal Lutheran with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Joni Thompson added 15 points for the Regals. Kim Peppi entered the game averaging 16 points for Cal Lutheran, but was held scoreless.
For Azusa Pacific (11-3 overall and 2-0 in league), 6-0 center Cindy DeYoung scored 14 points and had seven rebounds, and Linda Kading scored 13 points.
