Strongbow, Gonzales Meet for Title
Alonzo Strongbow of Sepulveda will defend his North American Boxing Federation flyweight title in a 12-round bout with Olympic gold medalist Paul Gonzales at the Hollywood Palladium on Feb. 2, it was announced Friday.
Strongbow, 27, has a record of 20-9-1. He won the NABF’s 112-pound title in 1984, decisioning Mexico’s Candido Tellez.
Gonzales, 21, from East Los Angeles, is 2-0 as a professional. He will be the first boxer from the 1984 Olympics to fight for a pro championship.
The bout will be telecast live nationally by CBS, promoter Bill Caplan said.
