Debbie Armstrong, the women’s giant slalom gold medalist in the 1984 Winter Olympic skiing competition, will return to the United States to have her injured knee treated. Armstrong crashed head-on into a safety fence during the final day of training for World Cup downhill races set for today and Saturday at Badgastein, Austria.
Armstrong suffered a tear of the inside ligament of her left knee and probably will require surgery.
