WARREN, Mich. — General Dynamics Corp. and the United Auto Workers union reached a tentative agreement today on a three-year labor contract that could end a six-week strike by nearly 5,000 workers who build M1 and M1A Army tanks, the company announced.
Details were not released. However, the company released a statement saying the accord “is responsive to the needs expressed to us by the negotiating committee.†General Dynamics’ Land Systems division was part of Chrysler Corp. until the auto maker sold it to raise cash during its financial troubles. The tank workers’ pay began falling behind those paid auto workers as Chrysler recovered.
