UEBER ODER UBER?

Two observations regarding the Sept. 22 Letters Page:

“Deutschland ueber alles”? I don’t think anyone familiar with the German language has ever seen such a spelling of the work uber, except maybe Peter Ueberroth.

The “Imperfections” box. Typographically speaking, large quantities of italic type, sans indents at paragraphs, are difficult on the reader’s eyes. Could this be what the editors have in mind as they expose the many embarrassments in the Calendar section each week?

At present, the Times’ computers don’t have accent-mark capability, so we insert an E after the vowel that takes an umlaut. Soon, we’ll be able to do a real uber .
