The City Council has awarded West Coast Arborists Inc. of Buena Park a $94,500 contract for the removal of 500 trees that have damaged curbs, sidewalks and sewers. An additional $10,000 has been set aside for trees 26 inches or more in diameter. . . . The City Council voted to allow Thomas Safran & Associates to build a housing project for the elderly that will reserve 49% of the units for low-income residents and 51% for moderate-income people. After a city subsidy of $100 a month per apartment, tenants would pay monthly rents of $335 and $475, respectively. The County of Los Angeles will issue tax-exempt bonds to finance the project.
