WASHINGTON — While disease patterns have changed during the past several decades, American health in general has improved, a report from the American Council of Life Insurance says.
A council study shows that death rates from cancer have increased but that those for cardiovascular diseases have dropped.
While new diseases such as toxic shock syndrome and acquired immune deficiency syndrome have appeared, modern medicine has almost wiped out such ailments as polio and measles.
