STUDIO MADONNA

I was not at all surprised to read that Madonna is being accused of using taped background vocals at her Universal Amphitheatre show (Pop Eye, by Patrick Goldstein, May 5).

Her singles sound more like the creation of an army of studio technicians than the efforts of a talented pop singer.

(Sigh). . . . How I long for the good old days, when singers were forced to rely on their own voices. Was Stevie Nicks’ Wild Heart Tour really only two years ago?
