Lots of people don’t have a lot of respect for the City Section’s Division III basketball schools but they are holding their own in the state playoffs and pulling off surprises.

From Chatsworth upsetting Palm Springs in the opening round of the boys’ tournament to Monroe’s girls’ team advancing to the Division III quarterfinals, the City Section is showing it can compete in the lower divisions.

Even Garfield gave a scare to North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake.

Now Chatsworth gets a shot at Harvard-Westlake on Thursday and Monroe will have a long bus ride to Santa Maria to play St. Joseph at Hancock College.

Also alive in Division IV boys’ is LACES, which beat Pasadena Muir and faces No. 1 Westlake Village Oaks Christian. View Park Prep is at North Hollywood Valley Torah in Division V.

And of course, the City Section has Woodland Hills Taft and Westchester alive in Division I.
