There’s growing concern being expressed at Hollywood Park about the condition of Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel, who has been at his Pacific Palisades home for at least two months trying to recover from an illness, according to longtime friend Jimmy Allard.

‘Bobby is a very private person,’ Allard said. ‘Only he and his doctor know.’

Allard said Frankel, who turns 68 on Thursday and has been training horses since 1966, has been dealing with a respiratory illness off and on. Calls to reach Frankel were unsuccessful.

Frankel ranks second all-time in career earnings for a trainer, with more than $221 million. He has won five Eclipse Awards as the nation’s leading trainer.
