‘Transformers’ freezes out ‘Ice Age’ in updated box office tally

Paramount’s shape-changing robots eked out a victory over Fox’s prehistoric creatures after all.
Revised studio estimates that include Sunday sales show ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ grossing $42.5 million on its second weekend, while ‘Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs’ earned $41.6 million on its first.
Initial estimates Sunday morning had the films tied for No. 1 with $42.5 million in ticket sales in the U.S. and Canada.
‘Ice Age,’ which opened Wednesday, still has a slight edge in the five-day gross, with $66.6 million compared to $64.9 million for ‘Transformers.’
